Privacy Policy

Who ‘we’ are is actually just ‘I’, Antya Markin, site owner, and one-person-who-does-everything: from research to recipe development, testing, product sourcing, tasting, photography, publishing, blog updates and technical self-support (when I don’t mess things up). I guess that makes me the Data Controller by default. Whatever that means.

Running this blog by myself is very time-consuming and my web analysis skills are non-existent. I barely make enough pennies through advertisements to pay for the blog upkeep, so I don’t engage specialist web services to market and analyse trends, visits, users, and so on. And I have a life, with better things to do than snoop on my readers or figure out their browsing habits. All I do is occasionally look at Google Analytics results in terms of where my readers are located geographically. And the only reason I do that is so I can tailor my posts to my largest audience. That’s it. I have zero interest in doing more than that.

So, the following nonsense (which was a lot of work, by the way) is so that I comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). I hope this riveting read makes sense to you.

What I can say – hand on heart and sarcasm aside – is that I recognise the importance of keeping your personal information private and secure. This Privacy Policy is intended to reassure you that the personal data gathered on this site is collected and processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner.

Contact details can be found by scrolling to the bottom of this page.

My website address is: It is referred to as ‘this site’ hereon.

The name and email address you provide in order to subscribe are used solely for the purpose of personalising the emails that are sent to you. When you subscribe to the Newsletter you also give me permission to send you other promotional communications, including third party offers, that I feel are relevant and genuine.

To send you these communications, I use the Brevo marketing tool. The Brevo privacy policy is available here: https://www.brevo/legal/privacypolicy/

To stop e-mails from this site, you can simply click on the unsubscribe link that is provided in every communication. Your name and address will thereafter remain on this site’s database for the sole purpose of statistical analysis. If you wish for your data to be deleted, simply drop me an e-mail and your wish will be my command.

When you leave a comment on this site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

When you post a comment, you provide your chosen name and email address, but the latter will not be viewable to the public. The name and address you supply in order to post comments will be stored on this site’s internal database together with your IP (Internet Protocol) address and used for analytical purposes only.

Should you wish for me to erase this data, let me know and I will oblige. Do bear in mind that the comment(s) you posted will also vanish along with your personal data.

I do not agree with auto opt-ins. You will always be required to specifically opt-in for whatever I offer, as and when I offer it.

This site utilises caching in order to facilitate a faster response time and better user experience. Caching potentially stores a duplicate copy of every web page that is on display on this site. All cache files are temporary, and are never accessed by any third party, except as necessary to obtain technical support from the cache plugin vendor. Cache files expire on a schedule set by the site administrator, but may easily be purged by the admin before their natural expiration, if necessary.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small pieces of data, stored in text files, that are stored on your computer or other device when websites are loaded in a browser. They are widely used to “remember” you and your preferences, either for a single visit (through a “session cookie”) or for multiple repeat visits (using a “persistent cookie”). They ensure a consistent and efficient experience for visitors, and perform essential functions such as allowing users to register and remain logged in. Cookies may be set by the site that you are visiting (known as “first party cookies”), or by third parties, such as those who serve content or provide advertising or analytics services on the website (“third party cookies”).

Both websites and HTML emails may also contain other tracking technologies such as “web beacons” or “pixels.” These are typically small transparent images that provide statistics, for similar purposes as cookies. They are often used in conjunction with cookies, though they are not stored on your computer in the same way. As a result, if you disable cookies, web beacons may still load, but their functionality will be restricted.

How are cookies used on this site?

I use cookies for a number of different purposes. Some cookies are necessary for technical reasons; some enable a personalized experience; and some allow the display of advertising from selected third party networks. Some of these cookies may be set when a page is loaded, or when a visitor takes a particular action (clicking the “like” or “follow” button on a post, for example, where applicable).

The WordPress platform and plug-ins that provide this site’s functionality install cookies by default. The anonymised data they collect is used purely to improve your browsing experience and does not identify you in any way.

If you leave a comment on this site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, a temporary cookie will be set up to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, several cookies are set up to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. When you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Third party advertisements are allowed on this site to recover part of the costs associated with running a niche recipe blog. Some of these advertisers (like Google through the Google AdSense program) may use tracking technology like cookies and web beacons when they advertise on this site, and gather information that may include your IP (Internet Protocol) address, your ISP (Internet Service Provider), your web browser, and your search preferences. This strategy tends to be used for geotargeting purposes (for example, to show someone in London a local home delivery service ad) or to display certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing travel ads to someone who habitually visits travel sites).

Types of cookies used on this site.

  1. Strictly necessary cookies enable the proper functioning of the site and cannot be disabled.
  2. Statistics cookies enable additional functionality like saving preferences, allowing social interactions, and analyzing usage for site optimization.
  3. Marketing cookies are placed by third party advertisers to display relevant content for an individual user.

You can choose to disable Statistics and/or Marketing cookies by simply selecting your preferences in the pop-up window of the privacy banner.

You can also disable cookies in your browser settings – for example, in Safari, by clicking on ‘Preferences’, then ‘Privacy’. However, if you delete all cookies it may negatively affect your browsing experience on this site as well as many other sites.

In line with common practice, I collect and use the data contained in the log files that are automatically created when a visitor browses this site. By browsing this site, you give explicit consent for me to collect and use such data, which is not linked to your personal information.

The information in the log files include your IP (Internet Protocol) address, your ISP (Internet Service Provider), the web browser (e.g. Safari) that you used when you visited this site, your geographical area, the time of your visit and which pages you viewed on this site.

This data is used to analyse web traffic, world locations and trends, mainly to help me understand my audience a little better and improve my services, or to enable me to provide relevant answers to enquiries/comments (for example when replying to someone asking where to buy lupin flour, I may look at their geographical area to indicate a suitable, local supplier).

Google Analytics is active on this site. The Google Privacy policy can be found HERE.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

By clicking on any of these links, you will be redirected to external websites and as such I have no control over what personal or tracking data may thereafter be collected and how it is used. Please refer to their Privacy Policies.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on this site (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data that is held about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that your personal data be erased. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

This site is hosted by FastComet. The security provided by the hosting service includes intrusion detection and prevention of malicious activity, enhanced perimeter protection, blacklist for malicious plugins known to cause security issues, added security layers to prevent hackers from stealing log-in credentials, and automatic WordPress updates to ensure reduced vulnerability and hacker attacks. SFTP/SSH encryption ensures that data transmission from this site’s computers to the remote files servers remains protected and safe. Daily backups and one-click restoration of files means that, in the event of an attack whereby visitors’ personal data might become compromised, I can quickly alert you of accidental loss, destruction or damage that may have occurred.
